The Perola is a beautiful yacht, recently refurbished, and perfect for a group of six anglers. There are five very comfortable air-conditioned cabins below deck, most having their own private bath, with good showers and plenty of hot water. This is an impressive yacht, with highly polished hardwood floors and teak paneling. Circular stairways take you downstairs to the cabins or upstairs to the dining area on the top open-air deck. The top deck is covered and always remains in the shade, but open to the sea breeze, insuring our guests a very comfortable and insect-free environment. Clear plastic side coverings are utilized in harder winds or in inclement weather. Several comfortable rope hammocks are hung from the ceiling structure and can be lowered after lunch or dinner for a delightful nap in the breeze. A full sized, air-conditioned salon on the main deck level can be utilized for a living and dining area in extremely harsh weather. Cayo Cruz
New Fishery
Destination Description
Located on the north shore of the eastern province of Camaguey, the Cayo Cruz fishery is an enormous system of flats, lagoons and pristine estuaries. Located in Jardines del Rey, commercial fishing within this designated area is strictly forbidden and rigorously enforced. The sportfish- only area is 366 square kilometers in size, meaning that on the average day, each skiff has over 50 square kilometers to itself. The fishing area is virtually untouched and represents one of the cleanest and most biologically diverse ecosystems we’ve ever fished. This is one of the other reasons we have chosen this destination. It is still pretty much untouched and has only seen anglers for three seasons! The fish are plentiful and aggressive. Most other destinations are now heavily fished and have been fished that way for over 15 years. Also, those concerned by the occasional cold fronts from the north during January to March can be assured that Cayo Cruz is privileged in having an extensive string of cays on its northern border which protects it from all but the most violent of weather patterns.
The first thing that guests need to know about when considering this location, aside from the exceptional flats fishing that is found here is that this new fishery is still very much in its infancy.
The flats are an inviting combination of hard packed white sand and a semi-firm mottled bottom that still provides good wading. And what a place this is for those who like to wade! It’s very similar to Los Roques in terms of the amount of area that’s wadable and there are places here where you can wade for 4 straight hours without heading back to the boat.
Cayo Cruz demonstrates all the characteristics of a recently discovered, virgin fishing territory – large numbers of fish, good sizes and their evident lack of exposure to flies and leaders. Add to this the natural beauty of the cays and of the water and you have a truly memorable place to fish.

Halcon
Luxury
Yacht Description
Anglers on the Halcon get in a lot more quality fishing time each day. You are minutes away from many of the very best flats so there is far less running time in the skiffs and more fishing time for everyone. Since you are fishing flats that are often ten minutes from were the Halcon is anchored this makes it very pleasant to come back to eat a wonderful lunch aboard and then even catch a little nap before heading back to the flats. Since the run back to the Halcon in the evening is short, it allows anglers to fish very late, almost until dark. Since it is often calm late in the day, it is always easy to find and catch some very large bonefish that become a lot easier to fool once the sun starts to go down.
All of the Halcon cabins have excellent A/C, comfortable beds and a surprising amount of storage space for your clothing and gear. Good showers with plenty of hot water make things comfortable at the end of a long fishing day. On the main deck is a large salon, which is fully air-conditioned with comfortable couches making it the perfect place to relax with a cocktail before dinner. The salon is equipped with a TV, DVD and a good sound system that allows people to either watch movies or for anglers to hook up their video cameras and have fun watching the exciting fishing videos shot by their friends earlier that day.
Meals are usually served on the afterdeck where there is normally a nice breeze. In inclement weather, the afterdeck is easily and quickly enclosed with heavy roll-down clear plastic windows. In more severe weather the air conditioned salon is utilized for our dining room.
Chefs on the Halcon have always been excellent. The day starts out with a hearty breakfast. Lunch is just right, with delicious lobster and pasta salads along with sandwiches of your choice. Dinners are primarily seafood and fresh fish provided every day by the crew.

La Reina
Perfect
Boat Description
The perfect yacht for smaller groups.
La Reina is a comfortable yacht, it is sixty-nine feet in length, fully air conditioned, with 4 double rooms and 4 bathrooms. The large upper deck, where meals are usually served makes a fine place to relax before diner with a cocktail or a good Cuban Cigar. We installed a new water maker that allows us an unlimited amount of fresh water each day. The showers now have plenty of hot water to make the accommodations as comfortable as possible for our guests.
The chef on La Reina, as on our other yachts, goes all out to provide delicious fare for our guests. Dinners are seafood oriented with fresh mutton snapper and grouper being readily available. Other traditional Cuban entrees like chicken and pork are also part of the regular weekly menu. It is very easy for us to prepare vegetarian meals on request and the chef serves a variety of salads and fruits each day. Everyone looks forward to the desserts like our famous Cuban flan, and delicious rum cake.

Fly Fishing
Fly Fishing in Cuba is far different from other destinations in the Caribbean. Only in recent years has this flats fishery been developed, and you are fishing waters that have not seen sport fishing for nearly fifty years.
Cuba has given these pristine areas protection as Cuban National Marine Parks, where no commercial fishing is allowed other than for lobster. Flats fish like Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Snook, Mutton Snapper, Barracuda, and a variety of Jacks are found in incredible numbers and since the fishing pressure is so light in these areas the fish rarely encounter sport fishermen and are unusually easy to catch.
Think about a place where you can fish more than 100 miles of flats without seeing another fisherman, a place where the flats fishing is so good that you can catch seven species of fish in one day, a place where big bonefish run toward your fly when it hits the water too hard, rather than streaking off the flat in the other direction, a place where you have a legitimate chance for a grand slam every day of the year, a place where big permit are as plentiful as they were in the Florida Keys 30 years ago, a place where you can wade miles of white-sand flats in your bare feet for big bonefish, a place where you'll find enough big cuberas, jacks, 'cudas, and sharks on the flats to wear you out! Note that Tarpon can't be fished with spinning because of marine park restrictions.
Despite heavy commercial fishing pressure before the ban, Cubas remote archipelagos have remained unspoiled. Because they are often situated from 50 to 100 miles off the Cuban coast and are not easily visited, even by the Cuban lobster fishermen. ?With the tutelage of several famous guides and anglers, the Cubans have become excellent guides and good fly fishermen. Give them a fly rod and they'll double-haul a 100-foot cast, or show you just how to work a fly to make bonefish charge and inhale it. They spot fish as well as any of the Caribbean's best guides and direct your casts from the poling platform. These guides enjoy enthusiastic anglers and love to work long days, allowing you to fish as hard as you want. A remarkable contrast to many other destinations or lodges where you are often limited to six or eight hours on the water, including your running time. In Avalon's destinations, there is never any limitation on gas used or distances run in the day. If you want to get out early and fish to dark, you can do it! But the fishing is normally so good and so intense that you'll be ready to quit in time to be back for cocktails. Although Spanish is the guides' native tongue, they have all taken classes in English and they communicate surprisingly well with their anglers. They are also in constant training to improve their language skills.
